The MREV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is a method that accurately measures the efficiency of filters by using coefficients which the gravimetric and colorimetric methods cannot precisely represent.
Currently, in the United States, filter efficiency is measured using MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) as specified in ASHRAE 52.2.
MERV classifies fine dust particle sizes into three categories: 0.3μm to 1μm, 1.0μm to 3.0μm, and 3.0μm to 10.0μm, denoted as E1, E2, and E3, respectively. If each efficiency meets the standard, it is indicated by a "MERV number."
For example, MERV 13 refers to filters with an efficiency of 75% for fine dust particles sized 0.3μm to 1μm, 90% for particles sized 1.0μm to 3.0μm, and over 90% for particles sized 3.0μm to 10.0μm, as shown below.
